Aerial Monitoring & Inspection on Farms in Abu Dhabi

The Aerial Monitoring & Inspection project, led by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), revolutionizes agricultural oversight in Abu Dhabi using advanced drone technology. This initiative significantly transforms farm inspections, making them more comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective. Traditionally a labor-intensive process covering 50,000 farms annually, the use of drones allows for frequent, detailed surveys, enhancing early detection of compliance issues, pests, and diseases. This proactive approach not only streamlines resource management but also bolsters the sustainability of local food systems by ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Currently, in the final stages of its implementation, the project has successfully integrated drone inspections into ADAFSA's operations, reducing traditional inspection costs by up to 50% and dramatically improving data accuracy and operational efficiency. With over 6,000 farms already inspected, the initiative is expanding its capabilities and refining data analysis techniques to further enhance the effectiveness of farm oversight. The integration of this technology not only benefits inspectors and farm owners by providing quicker feedback and guidance but also ensures the community has access to safe, quality-controlled food products. As the project moves forward, it continues to adapt and evolve, aiming to fully integrate aerial data with existing inspection systems to maximize its impact and align with Abu Dhabi’s vision for a technologically empowered agricultural sector.
