The "Development of Cohesive Laboratory Capabilities" project is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing laboratory operations across Abu Dhabi by establishing a unified One Health Laboratory Network. This ensures the early detection of potential and emerging biosecurity risks through the technical and functional integration of laboratory functions across the human-animal-environment interface This, in turn, strengthens preparedness and response, ensures process quality, employee efficiency, and resource sustainability. Prior to this initiative, laboratories faced challenges such as disparate standards and limited interoperability, which often compromised the efficiency and effectiveness of biosecurity responses. The implementation of this project transforms these operations into a cohesive framework that not only standardizes practices across all labs but also enhances the quality and reliability of laboratory testing. This is crucial for supporting government agencies and health professionals who rely on accurate data for decision-making, particularly in crisis situations. The project is currently advancing through several phases, Evaluating laboratory capabilities, and studying gaps. Expanding the scope of laboratory tests related to disease and emergencies, Establishing an integrated network of laboratories. This has led to important steps such as the collaborative development of several laboratory analyses related to One Health, in a participatory between the public health and animal health sectors. The initiative has established the Abu Dhabi One-Health Laboratories Committee, fostering greater collaboration and communication within the laboratory community. This collaborative approach not only improves laboratory integration and biosecurity measures but also aligns with global best practices, enhancing Abu Dhabi's capacity to manage health emergencies and biosecurity risks effectively. This initiative not only elevates the standard of laboratory operations in the region but also significantly contributes to the broader goals of public health and safety.
